Head office Office
Scope: Warehouse and office refurbishment Project duration: 6 weeks

Background

Panalux provides lighting rental facilities for film and television production and operates from bases throughout the UK, South Africa and Central Europe. The company has provided lighting and specialist lighting effects for many blockbuster films, including the James Bond and Harry Potter franchises.

The Panalux base at Greenford in Middlesex accommodates the company’s engineering and repairs departments and when the end of a long term lighting refurbishment project coincided with the expiry of a building lease, Panalux took the opportunity to bring these two previously separate operations together under one roof.

Newbury Interiors understood the requirements of the brief from the outset, and was selected to carry out the redesign and refurbishment of the warehouse and office area. A new mezzanine storage floor was also created, which acted as a roof to the new offices below and provided a second exit for equipment through the first floor into the main building.

Newbury Interiors was able to provide a design that worked in practice, and ensured critical requirements such as fire proofing of doors, weight-loading of the mezzanine floor and other health and safety issues were handled in accordance with regulations.

Scope of works

  • Meet and discuss requirements with client
  • Present and agree designs to fit budget, design, and timescale requirements
  • Health & safety and building regulation application approval
  • Provide four-phase programme of works
  • Installation of new mezzanine floor with new staircase to first floor
  • Two offices with new flooring
  • Reconfigure and fit new partitioning
  • Alterations to suspended ceilings
  • Alterations to lighting, power and data cabling
  • Decoration
  • Plumbing alterations, radiators
  • New spray booth & welding room
  • Fire-rated double-door

Critical issues

Since Panalux had already cancelled the second building lease, the existing warehouse area of the main building needed to be redesigned and refurbished to consolidate the two operations within a specific time window and before the lease expired. Furthermore, both departments needed to be kept operational during the entire project. A phased six week project plan was therefore established.

What the client said

Tony Fielding, Technical Operations Manager, Panalux, said:

“The Project Manager understood the warehouse and office refurbishment brief from the very beginning and worked closely with us to get us the best deal possible. I was very pleased with the fit-out work that Newbury Interiors carried out and I would personally recommend them to anyone.”
