Welcome! ...to New Interiors, the bi-monthly email newsletter from Newbury Interiors.

It has been a very exciting few days with our partitions having their film premiere in the new film ‘In The Loop' which hit cinemas last week!

We also report on our latest project for West Berkshire Council at Turnhams Green, near Calcot.

And with spring in the air, we have two ‘green' features that look at the new Environmental Liability Directive and the green credentials of our supply chain.

Newbury Interiors comes to you without charge or obligation. If you like it, please tell your colleagues so they can receive it too. Details on how to subscribe and unsubscribe are at the end of each issue.

Wishing you every success,

Refurbishment and fit-out products get 'greener'

Refurbishment and fit-out products get 'greener'

As we increasingly examine the environmental credentials of our supply chain, Newbury Interiors is pleased to announce ‘green' initiatives from two of our suppliers.

Office furniture supplier, Elite, has become Britain's first FIRA Approved Carbon Footprint Company.  The ‘Furniture Footprinter' was developed by FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association) to help companies within the furniture supply chain reduce their carbon footprints.  Elite uses locally sourced raw materials plus a specially designed logistics and distribution system to reduce the carbon footprint of the whole range of products as much as possible.

Suspended ceiling systems producer Armstrong, already supplies products with market leading performance with regard to recycled content, re-using waste fibreglass and waste newsprint.  Now, with its Ceiling Recycling Programme, Armstrong takes back old ceiling tiles and uses these within their processes, providing new ceilings with even higher post-consumer recycled content.

Environmental Liability Directive - know your risks

Environmental Liability Directive - know your risks

The new EU Environmental Damages (Prevention and Remediation) Regulations 2009 came into effect on 1st March.  Under the legislation, businesses are required to take preventative action to avoid damage to the environment, protected species and habitats.  It applies to any activity which has a potential to pollute the environment, not just large manufacturing units.  If any damage is caused, firms must notify the regulators of the problem and how they plan to remedy it, or they could face criminal action.

Film Premiere for Newbury Interiors partitions!

Film Premiere for Newbury Interiors partitions!

In an unusual departure from normal office fit-outs, Newbury Interiors has built part of the set for Armando Iannucci's widely acclaimed new film ‘In The Loop' which hit cinemas on April 17th.

Loop Productions Ltd asked us to build the set for the office scenes of the political comedy that were filmed at Swakeleys House, Ickenham, Middlesex.  The set design required enclosed offices of solid and glazed partitioning to be built alongside a central open plan area.

Newbury Interiors project manager Bradley Young said, "normally the offices we create stay in place for several years - the difference here was that after filming had finished we had to reconfigure the offices back to how they were before!"
