Changing responsibilities under the Construction Design and Management Regulations
Following intense lobbying from the Construction Clients' Group several key concessions have been made to the Construction Design and Management Regulations, which came into force in April.
The regulations affect premises occupiers when they have contractors working on site, and the lobbying came about as many occupiers were unaware of their responsibilities and the heavy criminal penalties they faced if they did not follow them.
The amendments affect contractors, who need to ensure they have staff welfare arrangements in place, can demonstrate competency to carry out work, and help occupiers calculate the risks in carrying out a project.
