Welcome! ...to New Interiors, the monthly email newsletter from Newbury Interiors.

As we head off on our summer holidays, it is traditionally a time when we reflect on our satisfaction with our jobs. Were you aware of the affect that workplace design and layout can have on employee retention, motivation and productivity? This month, we take a look at how you can make workspace work harder and be a more pleasant atmosphere for employees to work in.

2 people, 3 tools and 30 minutes to create a private work area! Addressing the need for quick solutions, Volume's Airea solution demonstrates how it can be done in an online time-lapse video.

New Interiors comes to you without charge or obligation. If you like it, please tell your colleagues so they can receive it too. Details on how to subscribe and unsubscribe are at the end of each issue.

Wishing you every success,

Chris Chamberlain
Managing Director

Why workplace design matters

Man sitting cross-legged in an empty office

The design and layout of a workplace can greatly impact the productivity and motivation of employees, and even have an influence on staff retention levels.

We spend an average of 8 hours a day at work and people simply work, see and think better in an environment that has more natural daylight, fresher air and is away from the hum of office equipment.

The Office Productivity Network is an information resource for managers of office-based businesses to improve the productivity of their workforce through their office environment. They host an annual conference focused on the latest workplace trends.

Changing responsibilities under the Construction Design and Management Regulations

Building Inspector

Following intense lobbying from the Construction Clients' Group several key concessions have been made to the Construction Design and Management Regulations, which came into force in April.

The regulations affect premises occupiers when they have contractors working on site, and the lobbying came about as many occupiers were unaware of their responsibilities and the heavy criminal penalties they faced if they did not follow them.

The amendments affect contractors, who need to ensure they have staff welfare arrangements in place, can demonstrate competency to carry out work, and help occupiers calculate the risks in carrying out a project.

Detailed guidance is available from the Construction Clients Group. Click here for more information.
