Welcome! ...to New Interiors, the monthly email newsletter from Newbury Interiors.

As the year draws to a close, we usually reflect on all the events of 2007 and start to look forward at what is coming for the New Year. 2007 brought change with new legislation being introduced covering asbestos, smoking, construction industry and the new WEEE directive to name but a few.

2008 looks to be no different, and in this issue of New Interiors we highlight the landmark health and safety legislation being introduced.

At Newbury Interiors we always work with leading suppliers, such as Armstrong, and we feature their new range of innovative acoustical solutions for ceilings.

And we focus on the work Newbury Interiors recently carried out for Lanxess in Newbury when they moved offices - requiring a total fit out; designing and creating their new office space, including specific data cabling requirements.

Finally, we wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year with a bit of light hearted news concerning the 12 Days Of Christmas.

New Interiors comes to you without charge or obligation. If you like it, please tell your colleagues so they can receive it too. Details on how to subscribe and unsubscribe are at the end of each issue.

Wishing you every success,

Chris Chamberlain
Managing Director

A total fit out for LANXESS

ceiling

Newbury based chemical company LANXESS called in Newbury Interiors to help them prepare their new offices when they recently moved premises. The new offices required a total fit out, including partitioning, lighting and air conditioning. The challenges of the work included special requirements for cabling for a high speed data link with their German head office.

A landmark Health & Safety Law

justice

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 is a landmark in law coming into force in April 2008. The new law introduces an important new element in the corporate management of health and safety and has some serious implications for organisations.

For the first time, companies and organisations can be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures resulting in a gross breach of a duty of care.

It will put greater emphasis on keeping your health and safety policies up to date and making sure your sites are regularly inspected, so that you adhere to all current regulations.

The Ministry of Justice has released guidance notes which can be viewed at this link.

How much do the 12 days of Christmas really cost?

partridge in a pear tree

US$19,507, up 3.1% from 2006, according to the team of analysts from PNC Wealth Management who have spent the past 23 years estimating the true cost of purchasing the items in the festive song 'The 12 days of Christmas'. Of course for those of us on the other side of the Atlantic these costs are relatively offset by a favourable £:$ dollar exchange rate and equate to approximately £9,429.60. Price rises are put down to an increase in the price of gold for the rings and changes to the minimum wage paid to Milkmaids! Merry Christmas!
