New asbestos regulations

Asbestos is still a major cause of death and long-term disability in the workplace. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 came into force on 13th November 2006. A clear understanding of your obligations as an employer is essential.

Croner, the business legislation specialists, have published a briefing on the new regulations, available in PDF and audio (MP3) formats. A model Asbestos Policy is also available. You will need to register to access the resources but they are available without charge.

New storage from Werner Works

Storage specialists Werner Works have launched their new 'Basic S' range. The range combines contemporary minimalist lines with the flexible functionality of the company's existing 'System S' range.

The units are stackable. The whole range can be personalised and can be individually finished in any RAL or PANTONE colour for just one cupboard.

Green lighting?

Businesses are increasingly recognising that competitive advantage, as well as significant energy bill savings, can be secured by adopting 'green' policies and practices. However, lighting systems - key energy consumers in offices and industrial facilities alike - are often overlooked in otherwise well-conceived environmental policies.

Released in April 2006, Part L2 of the Building Regulations lays down strict standards for the efficiency of lighting systems in non-residential premises. The regulations are now effectively forcing a general move to energy-efficient lighting systems.

A clean sweep at Thames Water

When Thames Water needed their Swindon call centre's washrooms refurbishing to better serve their disabled employees, their term maintenance partner engaged Newbury Interiors to handle the fit out.

Rapid completion of the project was required, while maintaining adequate washroom facilities for the 1,000-strong team at the call centre.
