Our People

We employ a high proportion of our own fitters and fixers and some of these have made a career out of their skills, working their way up through the company.

Our fitters work as a team, with one member appointed as a site base foreman. He will work in close contact with our operations manager, Andy Stacey, who allocates staff and materials.

Initial contact with clients will be through our contracts department headed by managing director Chris Chamberlain, for the preparation of costings. They will maintain regular contact throughout, ensuring the job is carried out as per specifications and budget.

Our office administrator Maureen Taylor runs our accounts department and is in charge of general office procedures.

Where jobs involve very specific skills such as plumbing or electricity, we may enlist help from trade partners, and these will be people we have worked with consistently over the years.

Our people are trained and qualified to at least NVQ level two standard, and are certified to carry out work on construction sites by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). This scheme assures our clients that our operatives’ skills have been validated against national standards and they have the required knowledge to operate safely on site. We also refer to our umbrella organisations for ongoing training and refresher courses.

Chris Chamberlain (Managing Director)

My background is in the construction industry. I trained with such household names as Costain and Moss Construction, and have OND and HND qualifications in building construction. Overall I have had more than 25 years’ experience specialising in interior contracting. My policy has always been to offer the highest standards possible. We endeavour to carry out our job to satisfy our clients’ expectations with the minimum of disruption to our clients’ businesses.

Andy Stacey (Operations Director)

I have been with the company since it started up, first on ‘tools’ as a foreman, where I carried out work on-site. My previous experience had included seven years as a ‘fixer’ with another interiors company. As operations director it’s my job to organise the nuts and bolts of a contract: In a nutshell, once the contracts team have a confirmed order, I make sure it happens. I order the appropriate materials and allocate the right labour at the right time to ensure that the project is completed to its deadline. I may have up to a dozen projects to organise at any one time so you could say that I’ve become an expert at juggling!

Maureen Taylor (Office Administrator)

Behind every good team is a busy administrator – and that’s what I do! I will usually be the person on the end of the phone – your first point of contact when you get in touch. I’ve been here since 2005 doing a multi-faceted role which includes handling all the accounts the administration and reception. I enjoy building a rapport with our customers, many of whom have been with us for years. It helps that I’ve worked in the building trade for many years – always in an accounting role. I’ve seen plenty of changes over the years. These days we have to be knowledgeable in health and safety, computing, tax and bookkeeping, as well as being a customer relations expert!

Bradley Young (Project Manager)

As a project manager I liaise with Debbie and prospective clients to formulate a design proposal, this includes pricing, accounting and project timescales Once this is agreed I manage the project from inception to completion with the assistance of Andy and the operations team. My previous experience involved working in property development and shop fitting and I am a chartered interior designer.

Bob Froud (Estimator)

I have worked in the commercial interiors business since I left school, and have since been involved in most areas of the interiors industry. My work at Newbury Interiors brings me back full circle to estimating where I mainly price building tenders and also get involved with projects which require specifying and pricing.

Pete Barry (Operations Manager)

With over 20 years hands-on site experience in the industry I know what works and what doesn’t when it comes to interior fit-out and refurbishment. As operations manager I am Andy Stacey’s right-hand-man, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and on time.
